Cast a spell this Halloween with these hauntingly festive appetizers.
As far as I remember, I watched The Wizard of Oz (1939) every year from the time I was 6 until… well, until I decided that I was “too old” to watch it. It was probably some time around age 10 or 11.
Some of the networks would air it every year and my grandmother would call the whole family in, to watch it together, knowing that there are a few things in that movie that could potentially scare the kids. I remember things that gave me nightmares : Flying Monkeys, The Talking Trees and Most of all The Wicked Witch of the West – She’s green, mean, ugly and she owns an army of flying monkeys and sets people on fire.
And so for Halloween this year I’ve decided to do a post about something that as kid I find truly scary. Witches! Together with hat, their own cat, black one, of course, brooms are probably the most defining accessory of a witch; they are also their means of transport.
So, What do you say? Should we provide them several brooms, so witches can visit us on Halloween ?
Yes ?
Let us see how to make Witch’s Brooms….. I’ve seen several recipes floating around for sweet witch’s brooms, but I’m always in need of more savory treats, which is one reason I especially love these. If you’re looking for a quick and tasty Halloween treat, then you definitely need to make these cheesy witches broomsticks !
- 3 String Cheese Sticks
- 9 Pretzel Sticks
- Fresh Chives or Green Onion
- Cut a cheese string crosswise in thirds,
- Then cut lengthwise ¾ of the way through the cheese, splaying the ends to make them look like brooms.
- Press a pretzel stick through the end, and tie a chive or piece of green onion around the top to complete the broom effect.
