How To Make This Apple Pie Cake
This cake has three layers which are poured one over another in your baking pan. Begin with preheating the oven to 350 F degrees and spray a 13×9 inch pan with baking spray.
Prepare Your Apples
Peel, core and thinly slice apples. In a medium bowl stir together apples, lemon juice, brown sugar and apple pie spice until apples are completely coated. Set aside. Lemon juice gives nice tart note to
the dish and also prevents that apples oxidize and get brown color after being cut.
Prepare Cake Mixture
In large bowl, mix cake mix, eggs, water and oil with electric mixer on low speed for 1 minute. Increase speed to medium, and beat 2 more minutes. Pour batter into prepared baking dish and then arrange apple mixture evenly over batter.
Topping
In a medium bowl stir together the flour, brown sugar and salt for the topping and cut in the butter using a fork or pastry blender until mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle topping mixture evenly over apples.
Bake
Bake until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean, about 45 to 50 minutes, covering with aluminum foil after 40 minutes to prevent excessive browning.
Let it cool 30 minutes before serving or cool completely. Serve with ice cream, or sprinkle with powdered sugar, if preferred. They are delicious either way!
Tips
To dust the cake with powdered sugar, put some sugar in a stranded sieve, hold it over the cake and tap the edge lightly.
You can store this Apple Pie Cake tightly covered at room temperature up to 2 days. If you want to freeze it let it cool completely before wrapping.
